Russian forces launch cruise missile attack on Ukrainian gas infrastructure

On the morning of February 11, Russian occupation forces once again attacked Ukraine with cruise missiles and drones, as a result of which nine communities in the Poltava region were left without gas.

The Air Force of Ukraine's armed forces, the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Ukrenergo, and Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported this.

Monitoring channels reported the takeoff of Russian strategic bombers starting at night. However, there was no official confirmation.

"Probably, there were launches of the Kalibr-type cruise missiles from the Black Sea!" Ukraine's armed forces later wrote.

Missiles were later detected in the Sumy region, heading towards Poltava. At 6:42 a.m., the Air Force urged Poltava residents to seek shelter, alerting them to cruise missiles approaching from the northwest.

As of 06:40 a.m., an air alert has been declared nationwide.

Poltava region

Later, it became known that the enemy had attacked the Poltava region with missiles.

"The enemy once again attacked the Poltava region. As a result of the missile strike, nine settlements in the Myrhorod district were left without gas supply," the regional military administration report says.

It is noted that no hits on civilian infrastructure were recorded.

Emergency power outages

Ukrenergo, in turn, implemented emergency power outages throughout the country in connection with the massive Russian missile attack.

"The Ukrainian energy system is facing another assault, with the enemy launching an overnight attack on gas infrastructure. As of this morning, the energy sector remains under threat.

The transmission system operator is urgently applying emergency electricity restrictions to minimize possible consequences for the energy system," Halushchenko said.

He added that the consequences of the attack will be clarified as soon as the security situation allows.

"The restrictions will be lifted after the air alert ends and the situation in the energy system stabilizes," Ukrenergo emphasized.

For reference:

The death toll from the Russian attack on a residential building in Poltava on February 1 has risen to 14. Among the victims of the missile strike were actress and volunteer Nastia Kolvakh, as well as the Yavorsky family, including both parents and their 9-year-old child.

Also, after the nightly drone launches on Christmas morning, the Russian Federation launched a massive attack on Ukraine using ballistic and cruise missiles. Energy facilities were again under fire.
