Ukrainian soldiers eliminate rare Smerch-2 ship-based bombardment system on Lyman front

In total, over the past day, the aviation, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck:

• six areas of concentration of personnel,
• six artillery systems,
• four other essential objects of the Russian invaders.

In total, the losses of the Russian invaders on the last day amounted to 1,390 people.

Ukrainian soldiers also neutralized:

• 13 tanks,
• 31 armored combat vehicles,
• 44 artillery systems,
• two MLRS,
• an air defense system,
• 132 operational-tactical UAVs,
• two missiles,
• 169 cars and a unit of special equipment.

The Smerch-2 is a Soviet-era anti-submarine warfare rocket launcher that targets submarines at medium to short ranges. An upgraded version of the Smerch-1 system, it deploys unguided depth charges in rapid volleys to effectively neutralize underwater threats.

In the fall of 2023, the media reported that the occupiers had installed a ship-based rocket launcher system on an MT-LB armored multi-purpose tractor. At the beginning of 2024, a video recording was published that recorded the launch of shells from the Smerch-2, which was installed on the chassis of a T-80U tank.

It should be noted that using a strike drone, operators of the 413th Raid Battalion destroyed the Russian Osa anti-aircraft missile system.

Ukraine's intelligence has reported a historic event: the successful deployment of R-73 missiles by an unmanned boat from Ukraine's Defense and Security Forces. On December 31, during a battle in the Black Sea near Cape Tarkhankut, located in temporarily occupied Crimea, soldiers from Ukraine's intelligence Group 13 special unit utilized a Magura V5 naval drone equipped with missile weaponry to achieve this milestone.
