The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with a mobile laboratory to investigate war crimes committed by Russian invaders during a full-scale invasion.

The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands reported this.

What is the solution?

"Ukraine will soon receive and be able to use a mobile research laboratory to investigate war crimes. For this purpose, the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands will transfer the JDEAL (Joint Deployable Exploitation and Analysis Laboratory) laboratory.

The Ukrainian delegation signed a contract for the laboratory's transfer today. Thus, the Netherlands is contributing to the fight against impunity and the investigation of war crimes in the war-torn country," the report says.

How does it work?

JDEAL is a mobile laboratory consisting of 13 special containers. It is equipped with various means for conducting forensic and technical research on-site.

Among other things, the laboratory allows:

  • to examine fingerprints,
  • to analyze DNA traces,
  • to read data from mobile phones.

The mobile laboratory is easily transported and can be ready for operation within a few days.

A team of specialists from Ukraine recently underwent training in the Netherlands to work with this laboratory.

It is planned that the National Scientific Centre "Hon. Prof. MS Bokarius Forensic Science Institute," which is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, will use it.

The laboratory should be delivered to Kyiv as soon as possible.

"In this case, it is not a military donation, but a civilian donation by the Dutch Ministry of Defense, which emphasizes the importance of investigating war crimes in Ukraine," the ministry emphasized.

For reference:

JDEAL is a joint project of the European Defense Agency, which supports initiatives in international cooperation. This Dutch initiative is a practical example of international innovative cooperation in conducting an investigation.

As reported, Ukraine has received another batch of F-16 fighters from the Netherlands. These modern combat vehicles are already in Ukraine and will soon begin performing combat missions, thus strengthening our defense and ability to resist Russian aggression effectively.

The Netherlands also trained 26 Ukrainians to be so-called F-16 crew chiefs, which lasted until the end of January.
