Ukraine’s armed forces confirm strike on Russia’s Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield

On the evening of February 5, explosions rocked the Russian city of Primorsko-Akhtarsk in the Krasnodar Krai amid looming threats of an air assault. The military airport, housing a warehouse of Shahed-type strike drones, came under attack. The Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine's armed forces executed the strikes in coordination with other components of Ukraine's Defense Forces. Additionally, during the night of February 6, explosions were reported in several areas of the Rostov region.

Russian local Telegram channels, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andrii Kovalenko, and the General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces reported this.

Attack on Primorsko-Akhtarsk

Around 10 p.m., reports about the explosions that resounded in Primorsko-Akhtarsk began to surface online.

From this city, the Russians regularly launch Iranian-made kamikaze drones for air attacks on Ukraine.

Additionally, on Wednesday evening, reports emerged about the activation of air defense forces and systems in Krasnodar Krai, as local authorities declared a drone threat.

In addition, footage of smoke in Primorsko-Akhtarsk was published on the Internet, and sirens and the sounds of alleged UAVs could be heard. Monitoring groups also posted the geolocation of the affected object.

"The attack targeted the area around the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield, which houses one of the warehouses containing Shahed UAVs," the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, said.

Before that, he also mentioned on his Telegram channel about the "strikes" in the city, from where Russian troops are "constantly launching Shahed drones."

Moreover, on the evening of February 5, the Russian Telegram channel SHOT wrote that residents of Primorsko-Akhtarsk spoke about "several loud explosions" against the background of the UAV attack. The Russian propaganda resource blames the Ukrainian side for the air strike.

"Several air targets were previously shot down, and due to falling debris, a fire broke out in one of the areas near the local airfield. Later, the work of the air defense was confirmed by the mayor of the city, Maksim Bondarenko," the Russian media publication says.

The General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces highlighted that the Russian airfield at Primorsko-Akhtarsk serves as a base for operational aviation assets.

"It is utilized for the storage, preparation, and launches of 'Shahed' type UAVs targeting Ukrainian territory, as well as for servicing aircraft that carry out missions in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions," the General Staff said.

Hits and explosions were confirmed in the target area, leading to a fire. The military added that the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The General Staff stressed that strikes on facilities involved in ensuring the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and terrorizing the civilian population will continue.

"To be continued… Glory to Ukraine!" the publication reads.

On the night of February 5, explosions were also reported in Krasnodar Krai amidst an air attack, with air defense operations actively continuing in the region. Additionally, there were reports of a fire at a local oil depot in the Kanevskiy district, which was attributed to the destruction of a UAV.

Later, the General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces stated that at night, the Security Service of Ukraine units, in cooperation with the Defense Forces, successfully struck Albashneft LLC in the Krasnodar Krai of Russia.

Explosions in the Rostov region

Rostov public forums report that explosions were heard in:

  • the Rostov region itself,
  • Taganrog,
  • Bataisk,
  • Azov,
  • Kamensk-Shakhtinsky,
  • Myasniki districts.

"It was deafening in Taganrog, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, and Myasniki districts," Rostov social media posts write.

In addition, air defense operations in the region have been reported, with drones reportedly being shot down.

The evening before, Rostov monitoring channels wrote about the threat of an air attack, particularly on the cities of Rostov, Azov, and Bataysk.

Subsequently, Kamyansk-Shakhtinsky was added to the list of cities facing a UAV strike threat. According to the Radar Rostov resource, Millerovo was also declared under "missile danger."

Meanwhile, local authorities did not report any consequences of air strikes on various settlements in the Rostov region.

According to the governor of the Rostov region, Yuriy Slyusar, Russian air defense destroyed drones in Kamyansk, Donetsk, Kamyansk, Millerovsky, and Chortkiv districts that night.

"According to preliminary data, there are no casualties or damage on the ground; the information will be clarified," the Russian official said on his Telegram channel in the morning.

Earlier, it was reported that on January 5, there was a drone attack on the Millerovo airfield in the Rostov region.

For reference:

On the night of January 14, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out the most massive strike on military facilities of the Russian army at a distance of 200 to 1,100 km deep into Russian territory. In particular, targets in the Bryansk, Saratov, Tula regions, and the Republic of Tatarstan were attacked.4
