Russian UAV strikes Sumy high-rise at night, killing four and injuring nine, including a child
On the night of January 30, a Russian drone strike targeted a high-rise building in Sumy, destroying several apartments. The attack claimed the lives of four individuals, and the number of injured continues to rise.
The Sumy Regional Military Administration and the State Emergency Service (SES) reported this.
Local authorities reported that a drone hit a high-rise building on the night of January 30 in Sumy. Initially, the city council reported four injured.
Later, rescuers reported that the number of injured in Sumy as a result of the night Russian strike had increased to nine, among them a child.
"On January 30, the enemy struck one of the 10-story residential buildings in Sumy. As a result of the attack, nine apartments and 12 balconies were destroyed, according to preliminary data," the report says.
The State Emergency Service (SES) reported successfully rescuing four individuals, including a child, and evacuating 118 residents. Emergency rescue and search operations are currently ongoing.
Additionally, rescuers swiftly established a mobile invincibility point at the scene, assisting 85 individuals. SES psychologists and doctors are on-site, with two canine units deployed to assist in the operations. Citizens receive comprehensive support as special equipment for high-altitude work is actively utilized.
The State Emergency Service added that rescue and search operations are currently continuing. They also emphasized that the bodies of two people (a man and a woman) were freed from the rubble.
Around 8 a.m., the military administration confirmed that two people had been killed.
"Nine received injuries of varying severity, including one child. Five victims were hospitalized, including a child, and three of them are in serious condition," the regional military administration noted.
They also added that people receive the necessary medical and psychological assistance. Rescue operations are ongoing.
"As of 8:00 a.m., a Shahed drone strike on a multi-story residential building in Sumy resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries, including one child," the military administration later added.
