Solutions to win: Ukraine’s Defense Ministry approves use of silent logistics robot by military

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and allowed the Ukrainian-made unmanned ground complex "Zmii Lohistichnyi" to be operated in units of Ukraine's armed forces.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported this.

What is the solution?

The "Zmii Lohistichnyi," an armored unmanned platform developed by Ukrainian company Rover Tech, has officially met NATO standards. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has now adopted the drone for military service.

How does it work?

"Due to its small height, the "Zmii Lohistichnyi" remains inconspicuous in the terrain. The robot can carry several hundred kilograms of cargo or pull a trailer of similar weight," Colonel Volodymyr Rochniak, Head of the Main Department for Supporting the Life Cycle of Armaments and Military Equipment, emphasized.

The robot can:

  • transport cargo,
  • evacuate people,
  • and drive light vehicles,
  • and it can be equipped with additional modules.

The robot features a silent electric motor and travels on metal wheels with wide ground lugs, allowing it to navigate off-road terrain, rocky surfaces, swamps, and shallow water obstacles.

The robot is also equipped with ballistic and mine protection and is designed to perform logistical and evacuation tasks in combat zones.

The drone weighs no more than 650 kg and can transport up to 500 kg of cargo in its luggage compartment or tow a trailer weighing up to 1050 kg.

The "Zmii" is equipped with special armor, enabling it to withstand drone attacks and impacts from anti-personnel mines. During testing, the drone successfully endured three aerial strike hits and an effect on a PMF anti-personnel mine.

For reference:

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine launched licensed production of FPV drones onbased onne of the state-owned enterprises.

The senior sergeant of the platoon of the Company of Strike Unmanned Aviation Complexes of the 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of Kyiv, actor-director, musician, and inventor Maksym "Eney" Bilyi has leveraged his over 10 years of IT experience to develop innovative solutions for Ukraine's armed forces. He created a dispatching system for FPV drones called LEVITATION with his IT friends.

It should be noted that combat units of Ukraine's armed forces will receive direct funding of UAH 2.5 billion monthly. These funds will be distributed among the brigades to purchase drones.

Also, the Ukrainian defense industry produced over 30,000 bomber drones last year, which the defense forces actively use to perform strike missions.

During a press conference on December 19, 2023, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said that one million drones would be produced in Ukraine next year.

By 2024, over 1 million FPV drones will be joined by at least 10,000 medium-range attack drones and over 1,000 drones that can cover distances of 1,000 km in production.

The drone industry in Ukraine is proliferating, with over 100 companies currently producing drones in the country.

Earlier, the head of Ukraine's Security Service announced that a unique marine surface drone, "Sea Baby," was produced in Ukraine. The drones are produced in Ukraine, but the factories are underground.

In addition, according to the Minister of Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamyshin, Ukraine has established serial production of the domestic analog of Shahed UAVs. Dozens of such drones can be produced in a month.

Moreover, engineers from Kryvyi Rih have begun mass-producing domestic strike UAVs – the Cobra aircraft, with a flight range of up to 300 km.

It is worth adding that the construction of the Bayraktar drone production plant continues in Ukraine. It is planned to produce more than 100 units of drones every year.

Ukrainian drone manufacturers are already capable of producing up to 150,000 units of products every month, and by the end of 2024, they plan to produce a total of 2 million drones.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has significantly increased the production of drones and aviation complexes. We are not only talking about copters and strike drones but also about naval drones. As Volodymyr Zelensky reported, Ukraine can produce a total of 4 million drones each year. To date, more than 1.5 million UAVs have been contracted.
