Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced during his visit to Lviv on January 28 that Ukraine would receive an additional 10 million euros for humanitarian needs.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry website reported this.

As noted, the money will be transferred to Kyiv from the Spanish Cooperation Agency.

This amount will supplement the 100 million euros that Spain has already provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In addition to this humanitarian aid, there is also an amount for reconstruction assistance, which has amounted to 400 million euros since the beginning of the Russian aggression.

The press service also reported that Albares met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay in Lviv.

Together, they opened a cultural center created thanks to the Spain-UNESCO Trust Fund for Development Cooperation. As explained by the Spanish department, this is a space dedicated explicitly to culture as a factor of peace and stability in the context of the war and the post-war period in Ukraine, whose cultural production structure has lost 90% of its resources due to the war.

"This center is part of Spain's comprehensive participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine, which was confirmed today with a new announcement of the allocation of 10 million euros from the Spanish Cooperation for humanitarian aid, added to the 100 million that Spain has provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the war," the report says.

The minister also visited a Lviv hospital and announced that Spain would send a team of medical instructors to train medical workers at a Ukrainian hospital.

During the meeting with Sybiha, he confirmed his support for Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

"The minister underscored the critical importance of upholding Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, emphasizing that peace for Ukraine cannot be achieved without Ukraine itself, just as European security is unattainable without the inclusion of Europe," the Spanish Foreign Ministry said.

For reference:

On January 28, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares visited Ukraine. He is to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha.

In Lviv, Foreign Ministers Andrii Sybiha and José Manuel Albares signed an agreement on cooperation between Ukraine and Spain in the field of education.

The agreement's primary goal is to improve the study of the Spanish language and culture in Ukraine and promote intercultural dialogue, mobility, and competitiveness in both states.
