Arming Ukraine with modern weapons could bring peace and Nobel Prize for Trump – Atlantic Council

The Atlantic Council think tank in Washington has published a list of "eight big ideas" for the future administration of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump. Among these are proposals for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The Atlantic Council reported that.

The council's experts, in particular, refer to Trump's promise to "shake up the US government and the world to achieve American interests." They offer an option that can help Trump win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Thus, former US ambassador to Ukraine and Atlantic Council analyst John Herbst believes the new president should continue providing Ukraine with assistance from the United States for "quick and successful negotiations."

"This could be a loan, but it must include advanced weapons—certainly longer-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMs) and F-16 fighter jets, but perhaps more—to ensure that Putin understands that continuing his aggression will not lead to additional territorial gains," Herbst said.

Experts also suggest that Trump "intends to reverse the ill-advised measures taken by President Joe Biden's administration to limit oil and gas production in the United States." This should lower world oil and gas prices and reduce Russia's revenues from the sale of hydrocarbons.

Furthermore, analysts suggest that the Trump team could heighten pressure on the Kremlin by implementing additional sanctions on top of those imposed by the Biden administration last week. They should also strive to surpass their predecessors by convincing G7 partners to transfer all frozen Russian state assets to Ukraine.

Among other ideas for Donald Trump from the Atlantic Council:

  • "Iron Dome for America";
  • leadership in 5G;
  • the future of the dollar;
  • a volunteer US Business Corps;
  • a "president of strategic resilience";
  • creating a competitive defense economy;
  • strengthening the maritime industry.

It should be noted that on January 9, during a speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin wants to meet with him and that the organization of negotiations has already begun. Trump also said that after the inauguration, he will meet with Putin "very soon."

For reference:

Representatives of US President-elect Donald Trump, in talks with European partners, admit that they will not be able to end the war in Ukraine quickly but promise to continue supporting the country.

"The whole team [Trump's – ed.] is obsessed with power and wants to look strong, so they are adjusting their approach to Ukraine," one of the sources said.

Trump's team also changed the timeframe for resolving the war in Ukraine from "24 hours" to several months, "which European partners took as a sign that his administration will not abandon its support for Kyiv immediately."

The special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, appointed by Trump, stated that he had set the goal of trying to find a solution to the current full-scale war within 100 days of the new president's inauguration.

Keith Kellogg previously stated that he was preparing visits to listen to the parties' positions on the full-scale war. It was also reported that he was supposed to come to Kyiv in January, but the visit was postponed.

Donald Trump previously assured that in his attempts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war, he would "not abandon Ukraine" and expressed hope that Russia's war against Ukraine could be completed in six months.

He emphasized that both Russia and Ukraine continue to lose many people. At the same time, Trump once again stressed that if he were president, "this war would never have happened."
