Ukrainian troops launched a precise air strike on the command post of Russia's 2nd Combined Arms Army in the temporarily occupied Novohrodivka, Donetsk region. This strike is part of a larger effort to target Russian command centers throughout the Donetsk region.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that.

The General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces noted that the Ukrainian strikes are aimed at disrupting Russian troops' tactical activity and complicating their command on the battlefield.

Thus, on January 8, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the command post of the 8th Army Corps of the Southern Military District in occupied Khartsyzsk.

On January 10, they struck the command post of the 3rd Army Corps of the Central Military District in occupied Svitlodarsk.

"Ukrainian strikes against main command posts further in the Russian rear, such as the January 8 strike on the Russian 8th CAA [Combined Arms Army – ed.] post, are likely aimed at degrading broader Russian logistics and operational planning efforts, which could have impacts on Russia's ability to conduct its military operations in western Donetsk region," the ISW report said.

According to ISW observations:

  • 2nd AC [Army Corps – ed.] is currently leading Russian operations south of Pokrovsk,
  • 3rd AC is operating near Chasiv Yar,
  • 8th AC is leading Russian efforts near Kurakhovo.

Key findings:

  • South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) confirmed that Ukrainian forces captured two North Korean soldiers during combat operations in the Kursk region on January 9.
  • Russian forces recently advanced in the directions of Kupiansk, Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Kurakhove.
  • The Ukrainian General staff reported on January 12 that Ukrainian forces conducted a high-precision airstrike on the command post of Russia's 2nd Combined Arms Army [CAA] (Central Military District) in Novohrodivka, Donetsk region.

According to the General Staff, this operation is a continuation of a series of fire strikes on command posts of the occupation forces on the Donetsk front.

"Ukraine's armed forces demonstrate a high level of coordination and professionalism in identifying and destroying key objects of the enemy's command and military infrastructure," the military said.

Novohrodivka is a city in the Pokrovsky district of the Donetsk region, the administrative center of the Novohrodivka urban community. Until 2020, it was a city of regional subordination.

It is economically and historically closely connected with Selydove. The Russian army has captured it since September 2024.

On January 7, Ukrainian forces carried out a precision strike on a Russian command post in the Kursk region.

Earlier, on January 2, the General Staff reported that Ukrainian troops had successfully hit an enemy command post in Maryine, Kursk region, with an accurate strike.

A few hours earlier, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, said that the 810th Russian brigade suffered significant losses due to the strike in the Kursk Region.
