26-year-old Scottish volunteer and Ukraine’s Defense Forces member dies on frontline

A 26-year-old volunteer from Scotland, Jordan McLachlan, who had served in the Defense Forces since 2022, has died fighting for Ukraine.

As reported, McLachlan is from Ardnamurchan, Scotland. According to his relatives, the fighter died on Friday, January 5, while serving on the front line.

In their statement, the relatives noted that Jordan always believed he was doing something important, and they were proud of how he helped others.

The publication writes that several Scots have joined the Ukrainian army since the start of the full-scale war. One of them is a mechanic from Buggar, Adam Ennis, who left his garage business to join the International Legion. Also, in December 2022, Jonathan Shankin from Glasgow died in Ukraine.

In addition, in November 2024, a 22-year-old British citizen, Callum Tindall-Draper, who served in the International Legion of Ukraine's armed forces, died in the war in Ukraine.

In December last year, the commander of the Free Georgia Legion, Badri Kvaratskhelia, died in battles against the Russian army in the Kursk region. The serviceman suffered fatal injuries.

Also, in May last year, a volunteer, a citizen of Georgia, Sergo Gornakashvili, died due to fighting at the front. The football club also said that the Georgian volunteer played for the Ukrainian football club "Kolos," from Velyka Dymerka, Kyiv region.

In addition, on May 7, the Ukrainian volunteer unit "Black Eagle" reported the death of two of its fighters from Georgia – David Gogadze and Beso Lomidze.

Foreign citizens are already fighting in the Defense Forces of Ukraine, not as representatives of their countries' armed forces but as volunteers.

Even at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky called on citizens of foreign countries who were friends of Ukraine to join the territorial defense forces.

A separate unit was formed from them—the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine. In March 2022, the Ministry of Defense reported that 55 countries have representatives in the International Legion.
