Solutions to win: Veteran from Lviv region launches production of combat drones

Taras Stefanyshyn, a veteran of the 125th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Lviv region, has received grant support through the state program eRobota and established his own unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production.

What is the solution?

After sustaining a spinal injury in 2023 and undergoing rehabilitation, Stefanyshyn decided to pursue a civilian career. Last year, he participated in the government program eRobota (eWork) which supports veterans and other citizens in Ukraine by providing grants to help them start or expand businesses. With this support, he launched his own unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production.

How does it work?

The Lviv Regional Military Administration (OVA) reminded that the maximum grant amount for veterans, depending on the number of jobs created, can reach up to 1 million hryvnias (approximately $27,000 USD), and for their family members, up to 500,000 hryvnias (approximately $13,500 USD).

Stefanyshyn shared, "Our partners told us about such grant programs. They already worked with the Lviv Regional Military Administration and helped me draft the first business plan. I was convinced that it works and should be developed."

His company, Morena, specializes in the manufacture of combat drones — FPV and kamikaze drones — and handles all stages of production, from soldering circuit boards to 3D printing parts.

Stefanyshyn's team now consists of 7 specialists, and their drones are actively used by military units.

The former serviceman received his first grant through an employment center and later received additional support from the Lviv RMA, which adds 30% to the state grant.

In 2024, thanks to the regional veteran support program, 53 participants received grants, creating about 100 new jobs.

We also remind that a new office of the Lviv Center for Providing Services to Participants in Combat Operations has been opened in the Zaliznychnyi District of Lviv. The primary goal of this unit is to assist veterans in finding employment and advancing their careers. Veterans with combat experience will work here to ensure an "equal-for-equal" approach.

Additionally, courses in humanitarian demining have been developed for veterans at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
