From January 2 to 31, 78 designated Christmas tree collection points will operate throughout the capital, with multiple locations in each district. This is almost double the number from last season.

The director of the Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of the Kyiv City State Administration, Oleksandr Voznyi, announced that.

All collected Christmas trees and pines will be sent for ecological recycling, and they will be used further in the city's green economy.

As Oleksandr Voznyi noted, this year, for the convenience of Kyiv residents, they have almost doubled the number of Christmas tree collection points – to 78.

"Like last year, locations will be set up in parks and squares of the capital, as well as on the territory of municipal enterprises for the maintenance of green spaces and forest parks.

After the New Year holidays, we urge everyone who installed a live Christmas tree at home to hand it over for ecological recycling," he emphasized.

According to Yuriy Bakhmat, General Director of Kyivzelenbud, each tree taken for ecological recycling will receive a "second life," which will help the environment.

"New Year's trees and pines from collection points are sent for ecological recycling. They are crushed into chips and later used to mulch the holes of young trees to preserve soil moisture in the summer and protect plant roots from freezing in the cold season.

It is important to remember that only live trees without decorations are accepted for recycling," Yuriy Bakhmat emphasized.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, in January 2024, Kyiv residents gave about seven thousand Christmas trees and pines for recycling, most of them to the collection points of the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts.

For reference:

Only live trees without decorative decorations are accepted for recycling. The points operate until January 31 in every city district, in parks and squares, and on the territories of municipal enterprises for the maintenance of green spaces and forest parks.

One can see a map of all collection points on the Kyivzelenbud Joint-Stock Company website.

Please note that trees can be delivered to designated locations at any time, except during curfew hours, when there is no set working schedule.

Rubryka earlier reported that Christmas tree collection points in the capital will begin work on January 2, 2025, and will operate until the end of the month. This year their number will almost double compared to the previous one.

As Rubryka mentioned, the New Year is a time filled with wonder, presents, and shared moments with family. Yet, the festivities often lead to excessive trash and spending.
