Solutions to win: Ukraine approves Coyote camouflage vehicle for Defense Forces use

The Ministry of Defense has officially codified and authorized the distribution of a new camouflage vehicle called "Coyote" to the Defense Forces. Additionally, it has been announced that in 2024, the Ministry of Defense deployed approximately 60 ground robots and over 250 unmanned aerial systems within the troops, including more than 240 domestically developed and produced systems.

ArsenalInform reported that on Facebook.

"The Defense Department has officially approved a specialized smoke-producing vehicle called the HMMWV "Coyote" for use in combat situations. This vehicle generates smoke to obstruct the enemy's ability to see and use infrared technology to observe our unit's movements on the battlefield," the message reads.

As noted, the "Coyote" smoke system is installed on the chassis of a military HMMWV off-road vehicle, providing camouflage for units' tactical actions.

The system's smoke blocks the function of sensors equipped with tank thermal sights and other systems that operate in the visual and infrared spectrum.

Ground robots

Over the past year, the Ministry of Defense has allowed about 60 samples of ground robots to be used in the troops in 2024.

"The Defense Department codified almost six dozen samples of ground robotic complexes (GRC) during 2024. This is four times more than in previous years since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation," the report says.

It is noted that the list of codified ground robot samples includes robots for performing a wide range of tasks on the front line. In particular, for:

  • logistical support of front-line positions,
  • evacuation of the wounded,
  • platforms for placing combat modules, etc.

Most of the codified samples are already used by units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

In the second decade of December in the Kharkiv region, near the settlement of Lyptsi, units of the Defense Forces conducted the first-ever operation using exclusively robotic systems on the battlefield. It involved ground robotic complexes equipped with machine guns, ground kamikaze drones, whose task was to blow up obstacles or enemy shelters, and NRC sappers who installed or removed minefields, the Main Directorate for Supporting the Life Cycle of Armaments and Military Equipment reported.

Unmanned aerial systems

Also, in 2024, the Ministry of Defense codified and approved for use in the Defense Forces more than 250 unmanned aerial systems, including more than 240 domestic development and production.

"During 2024, the defense department codified and approved for use in the Defense Forces more than 250 unmanned aerial systems. More than 240 of them are domestic development and production. This is 3.5 times more than the samples of unmanned aerial systems allowed to operate in 2022 and 2023. UAVs are the largest group in the list of samples of munitions codified last year," the message says.

As Colonel Volodymyr Rochniak, Head of the Main Department for Supporting the Life Cycle of Armaments and Military Equipment, noted, the role of unmanned systems on the battlefield is rapidly growing, and Ukrainian gunsmiths are quickly responding to the needs of the front.

"Currently, domestic defense enterprises are developing and producing unmanned aerial systems for various purposes (kamikazes, bombers, scouts, etc.) and different types (aircraft, helicopters). Some models are unique in their characteristics," Rochniak said.

He said that the unmanned systems allowed for use in the Ukrainian Defense Forces include those with improved resistance to radio-electronic interference, low noise, as well as homing and self-destruction systems.

For reference:

As reported, the Ministry of Defense codified and authorized using the Ukrainian-made "Shchedryk" unmanned aerial system in the Defense Forces.

It was also reported that the unique all-wheel drive buggy "HURKIT," which has no analogs, was developed at the Lviv School of Computer Technologies and Construction.

Four more new robotic developments from the Brave1 project participants, which have successfully passed codification according to NATO standards, will be able to work on the front line.

In addition, tests of drones with fiber-optic communication were recently completed in Ukraine.

It should be noted that Ukrainian developers have created a new unmanned aerial vehicle, WarDog, which can conduct reconnaissance in rugged terrain and is under the influence of enemy electronic warfare.
