Great Britain extends residence permits for Ukrainian refugees

The UK has granted asylum to over 300,000 Ukrainians who were forced to leave their country due to Russia's full-scale invasion.

The report states that Britain remains committed to aiding the most needy Ukrainians.

"Since the beginning of Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine, the UK has granted or extended asylum to over 300,000 Ukrainians, and our support will continue for the Ukrainians who need it most," the government report says.

The Home Office will begin accepting applications for an extension of residence permits for an additional 18 months on February 4, 2025.

Applications can be submitted online. The new scheme provides the same rights as the current programs.

"Those eligible can apply online, and this scheme will provide the same rights and opportunities as existing schemes for Ukrainians regarding access to work, benefits, healthcare, and education," the government added.

It is worth mentioning that the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Czech Parliament, approved the collection of laws known as Lex Ukraine VII on December 21. This legislation allows for the prolongation of temporary protection for asylum seekers from Ukraine for an additional year.

It is worth adding that on June 25, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision to extend temporary protection until March 4, 2026, for more than 4 million Ukrainians who have found refuge in the EU from Russian aggression.
