Hungarian PM: Russian-Ukrainian war to conclude in 2025 either with peace negotiations or devastation of one side

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine will end in 2025 either with peace negotiations or with the destruction of one of the parties.

The head of the Hungarian government said this in an interview with Magyar Nemzet.

"The war will end in 2025. It can be ended either with peace negotiations or with the destruction of one of the parties," Orbán said.

The Hungarian Prime Minister is convinced that after the war ends, European economies, including Hungary, will again "have great economic successes."

Orbán also criticized the spending of Ukraine's allies on military aid and said that the United States and Europe have spent about 300 billion euros on the war, which, in his opinion, could become:

  • "the basis" for improving living standards,
  • stopping migration,
  • creating a new European defense system.

"The result? A fifth of Ukraine's territory is under occupation, hundreds of thousands of people have died, hundreds of thousands have been injured, hundreds of thousands have been left widows and orphans. Meanwhile, millions have fled Ukraine, whose infrastructure, transport and energy systems have been completely destroyed, and the country is unable to economically support itself in the future," Orbán said.

For reference:

Hungary has proposed that Russia and Ukraine conclude a "Christmas truce" for several days and exchange prisoners on the eve of this holiday.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had a more than hour-long telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 11 and discussed the Russian-Ukrainian war with him.

"These are the most dangerous weeks of the Russian-Ukrainian war. We are taking all possible diplomatic steps to argue for a ceasefire and negotiations," Orbán wrote.

On the same day, the Prime Minister of Hungary said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had rejected a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange with Russia.

In turn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that talks about the war against Ukraine, which Russia is waging, cannot take place without the participation of Kyiv.

"We all hope that Viktor Orbán will not at least call Assad in Moscow to listen to his hour-long lectures," Zelensky noted.

It is worth adding that on December 10, Orbán met with US President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
