United to win: Britain and Norway to increase support for Ukraine in fight against Russia’s shadow income

The UK and Norway seek to ensure Ukraine has the strongest possible position by 2025.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this at a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The British head of government stressed that achieving this goal involves:

• using economic sanctions,
• fighting critical sources of income that finance Russia's military actions.

This initiative, in particular, aims to counter the shadow fleet, which provides Russia with illegal income through oil trade to circumvent sanctions.

As participants in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), Britain and Norway emphasized their unwavering support for Ukraine. The JEF unites countries that provide the greatest assistance to Ukraine and demonstrate a clear pro-Ukrainian position.

One of the key topics of discussion between the leaders was the need to stay ahead of new threats, especially in cyberspace. Starmer and Støre agreed that cooperation with NATO allies in the defense and security spheres is critical to responding to modern challenges.

Britain and Norway expressed their readiness to continue cooperation to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and deter Russian aggression.

Support for Ukraine from Western allies remains one of the key factors in the fight against Russian aggression. Great Britain has already made a significant contribution to military, economic, and humanitarian assistance, continuing to expand sanctions and pressure on the Kremlin.

President Zelensky recently announced that Britain had made a new decision regarding sanctions against the shadow tanker fleet. As a result, 30 tankers have been officially sanctioned.

Also, on November 19, Great Britain allocated 7.5 million pounds sterling (over $9.5 million) for military assistance to Ukraine within the framework of the drone coalition. These funds will be used to purchase UAVs for Ukraine's armed forces.

In addition, a British artillery company will open a new howitzer factory. This step is aimed at increasing support for Ukraine.
