The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, within the Medevac medical evacuation program framework, has organized another round of sending injured Ukrainians for treatment abroad. The main countries that accepted patients are Germany, Latvia, Poland, the Netherlands and Norway.

The Ministry of Health reported that.

The medical evacuation program plays a crucial role in aiding Ukrainian citizens impacted by the war. It grants them access to top clinics in Europe for specialized treatment without any cost, easing the strain on the Ukrainian healthcare system. The evacuations, done in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the European Commission, WHO, and other international partners, take place weekly.

Children and adults injured by shelling, patients with neoplasms and rare diseases, and military personnel are sent to foreign clinics. Priority is given to conditions that require urgent treatment as a result of shelling, injuries, as well as complications of such conditions.

In total, thanks to cooperation, more than 5,700 Ukrainians have already been evacuated, including patients with mine-explosive injuries, those in need of prosthetics, and cancer patients. There are also about 750 children with cancer among the evacuees.

A physician can send a patient to receive medical care outside of Ukraine, assess if they meet the requirements, and prepare the required paperwork, including an extract from their medical record (form No. 027/o), two signed consent forms for personal data processing, and for military personnel a statement from a physician or the hospital's medical director certifying the need for treatment abroad.

Currently, there are several options for submitting an application for medical evacuation:

  • through the regional health department;
  • submitting an application online on the Ministry of Health website in the "For Citizens" section;
  • for the military – through the command of the Medical Forces of Ukraine.

The duration of treatment is individual and depends on the state of health, the dynamics of recovery, the progress of treatment, etc.
