Ukrainian rescuer Volodymyr Skovorodka shines at IAU 100 km World Championships in India

Ukrainian representative Volodymyr Skovorodka performed strongly at the 100 km World Championships held in Bengaluru, India. He finished in the top one hundred overall, representing a great accomplishment for his role as a rescuer of the Kyiv garrison.

The IAU 100 km World Championships is one of the four main championships organized by the International Association of Ultramarathons. For the first time since 1987, India hosted the world championships. The rescuer of the Kyiv garrison became a participant of the Ukrainian national team. The competition takes place every two years and brings together the strongest runners in the world.

According to the rescuers, representatives from over 40 countries completed the race, which spanned 20 laps on a 5-kilometer track. Overall, more than 250 athletes took part in the competition.

Volodymyr completed the race in 09 hours 27 minutes 36 seconds, earning him a spot in the top hundred of the overall rankings.

This is not Volodymyr's first record. In 2023, he gained recognition by covering a distance of 50 km in full combat gear. The rescuer then dedicated his race to the memory of his deceased colleagues and civilians who became victims of Russian aggression.

The Firefighter Challenge is the largest sporting event for professional firefighters. The championship includes competitions in five types of tests, which firefighters try to complete in the fastest time.

In addition, a rescuer from the Rivne region, Mariia Lebedynska, won several nominations at the World Firefighter Challenge Championship 2024.

It was also reported that a rescuer from Odesa set three records at the international firefighting competition Odessos Cup 2024 in Bulgaria.
