United to win: Germany to deliver 6th IRIS-T air defense system and Patriot launchers to Ukraine by year’s end

Germany's total assistance to Ukraine amounted to 37 billion euros, the largest amount among all European states.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, emphasized this during the VII Ukrainian-German Economic Forum, which will be held in Berlin on December 11 with the participation of the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz.

The head of the Ukrainian government also noted that 53 investment guarantees, totaling almost 382 million euros, have already been provided for German projects in Ukraine.

"I sincerely thank the German business community for their faith in Ukraine. After the full-scale invasion, not a single German company left the Ukrainian market. Moreover, many German firms continue to invest in Ukraine," the Prime Minister emphasized.

In addition, during the forum, Chancellor Olaf Scholf confirmed that Germany will deliver the sixth IRIS-T air defense system and Patriot launchers to Ukraine by year-end.

"Security is a significant factor for the stable operation of business and attracting investments," Denys Shmyhal emphasized and thanked the German government for its contribution to strengthening the security of Ukraine, as well as for state programs of investment and export guarantees for the operation of business on the Ukrainian market.

In mid-November, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Ukrainian president and the German Chancellor discussed continuing defense cooperation. Olaf Scholz reported that the sixth of the planned IRIS-T air defense systems will arrive in Ukraine by the end of this year. Attention was also paid to the volume of air defense system deliveries for the next year and possible additional air defense assistance from Germany.

Moreover, the German government launched an initiative on April 17 to find additional air defense equipment that could be transferred to Ukraine. Berlin later reported discussing financing the initiative with Denmark and the Netherlands.

In April, Belgium also announced the allocation of 200 million euros for the German initiative, and in May, Canada promised to give more than 55 million dollars.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also announced his intention to purchase three HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems from the United States and transfer them to Ukraine.

At the 22nd meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format), which took place the day before, a number of countries expressed support for Germany's initiative to find air defense means for Kyiv.
