Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal arrived in the Ukrainian capital on Monday, December 9, for a visit. He plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and more.

The head of the Estonian government reported that on X.

According to him, the purpose of the visit is to discuss Estonia's support for Ukraine in the war against Russia and Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO.

"Supporting Ukraine until victory will remain Estonia's priority, we will make no concessions. Ukraine's victory is a win for Europe, the US and to the whole democratic world," he said.

During his stay in Kyiv, Michal will meet with:

  • President Volodymyr Zelensky,
  • Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal,
  • Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.

According to the Estonian National Broadcasting Corporation (ERR), the program of Michal's visit to Kyiv also includes meetings with:

  • Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov,
  • Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov,
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha.

Also, he will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Wall of Remembrance for those who fell for Ukraine.

Kristen Michal became Estonia's Prime Minister on July 22, 2024, after Kaja Kallas's third government resigned and a new cabinet was formed.

Moreover, on December 9, Friedrich Merz, the candidate for the position of Chancellor of Germany from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit.

For reference:

Estonia has provided Ukraine with significant support since the full-scale war, including financial, humanitarian, and military assistance. For example, Tallinn recently announced a new aid package to Kyiv, including equipment and ammunition.

It is worth mentioning that Ukraine will receive air defense missiles from an Estonian company. These missiles are specifically designed to take down drones.

Since October 2023, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, in collaboration with the Estonian Center for International Development (ESTDEV) and the Tallinn College of Health Care, has been executing two training programs for Ukrainian rehabilitation specialists.

In addition, Estonia is considering the possibility of purchasing Ukrainian defense products, including long-range missiles. However, due to the military situation, there is a ban on exports, which can be circumvented.
