United to win: Japan sends eight excavators to Odesa for cleanup following Russian attacks

Odesa continues to receive support from Japanese partners. The city recently received eight excavators and spare parts for municipal enterprises. The assistance came as part of the urgent renewal program for Ukraine, organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The Odesa City Council reported this on Telegram.

"This is timely and very important assistance, thanks to which we will be able to more effectively overcome the consequences of Russian attacks and bring the city back to order," Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov stressed.

This is not the first technical assistance that Odesa has received from Japan. Previously, the Japanese side transferred:

• a truck crane,
• two powerful bulldozers,
• three excavators.

This equipment is already actively used for:

• carrying out emergency repair work,
• clearing debris,
• improving the city.

The equipment transfer took place within the framework of a grant agreement signed on April 14, 2023, between the governments of Japan and Ukraine. The project is being implemented by the Japanese agency JICA, the consulting company NIPPON KOEI, and the municipality of the Japanese city of Yokohama.

The equipment Japan transferred is an important resource for the city in the face of constant Russian attacks. It allows for a quick response to challenges, ensuring the viability of Odesa's infrastructure.

It should be noted that the Japanese company Cyberdyne, which produces high-tech robotics, will transfer 46 robotic exoskeleton suits to Ukraine for the rehabilitation and recovery of people who were seriously injured due to the war.

It was previously reported that Kyiv received the first equipment worth over 3 million hryvnias within the framework of the international technical assistance initiative "Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project." In particular, 34 computers were provided by the Government of Japan through the International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
