White House pledges massive delivery of shells and missiles to Ukraine by mid-January – The Guardian
The US has implemented a plan to increase military aid to Ukraine and apply more pressure on Russia. This includes supplying a significant amount of weapons, equipment, and ammunition and implementing additional sanctions against Russia.
The Guardian reported that.
As noted, on the evening of December 5, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met for more than an hour with Andrii Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
During this meeting, Sullivan promised:
- Increasing military assistance: The United States promises to provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, missiles, and armored vehicles. The assistance should be implemented by mid-January.
- Training of the Ukrainian military: Training of new units will take place outside Ukraine.
- Introduction of sanctions: New large-scale sanctions against Russia will be implemented in the coming weeks.
The publication emphasizes that such US actions are aimed at complicating Russia's ability to support military operations and strengthening Ukraine's position at the negotiating table, which could lay the foundation for a future settlement.
It should be noted that the head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, US Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, and future National Security Advisor Mike Waltz met in Washington on December 4.
The journalists' interlocutors noted that the meeting lasted more than an hour and was focused, first of all, on the Ukrainians' assessment of the situation on the battlefield and on what changes Ukraine expects after the Trump team comes to power.
They also claim that the Ukrainian delegation proposed a general plan for its defense strategy without providing details.
For reference:
The US's support, specifically through providing weapons, ammunition, and other resources, is crucial in dealing with Russian aggression. If this aid is reduced, it could significantly impact Ukraine's capability to defend itself and actively protect its territories.
In early November, the United States announced the allocation of a $425 million military assistance package for Ukraine. The army will receive missiles, ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.
On November 17, Western media reported that the administration of US President Biden permitted Ukraine to use the provided American weapons to strike at Russian territory. Following the US, similar permissions were granted by France and the United Kingdom.
In turn, President Zelensky stated that if the US reduces its military assistance, Ukraine could find itself in a critical situation. The available resources of Ukrainian production are currently insufficient to resist Russian aggression successfully.
However, the US may not have time to use more than $6.5 billion to send weapons to Ukraine before the end of Joe Biden's presidential term.
Last week, it was announced that President Joe Biden of the United States has requested an additional $24 billion from Congress to support military aid for Ukraine. This will also help replenish the stocks of American weapons transferred to Kyiv.
However, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said that he would not put President Joe Biden's additional aid to Ukraine to a vote.
