EU leaders António Costa and Kaja Kallas make surprise Kyiv visit
European Council President António Costa and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. This marks their first visit to Ukraine in their current roles.
Rubryka reports this with reference to a post by Kallas on the X social network.
They were joined by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. The delegation's primary objective, as stated by Kallas, is to deliver a clear message: "The European Union wants Ukraine to win this war," adding, "We will do whatever it takes for that."
In June, EU leaders endorsed Ursula von der Leyen for another term as President of the European Commission, while appointing former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa as European Council President and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Earlier this month, Kallas' predecessor, Josep Borrell, visited Kyiv for his final official trip in the role. During his visit, he reaffirmed the EU's unwavering commitment to keeping Ukraine at the forefront of its agenda.
