Ukraine receives record $4.8 bln investment from World Bank

Ukraine received $4.8 billion from the World Bank for the PEACE project.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, reports this.

The head of the Ukrainian government emphasized that this is the most significant investment project in the history of the bank, launched to support Ukraine in implementing:

• reforms,
• social and educational sectors,
• health care,
• agricultural producers,
• recovery projects.

"We are extremely grateful to the United States and development partners who finance assistance as part of the PEACE project. We thank the World Bank for its constant involvement and active support of initiatives that strengthen Ukraine," Shmyhal said.

In total, almost $50 billion was attracted through the World Bank mechanisms during the full-scale war.

It should be noted that the government recently adopted a decision that will allow Ukraine to receive $4.8 billion from the World Bank.

According to Shmyhal, the United States and its partners will finance these funds, which will be directed to social and humanitarian programs. He also recalled that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukraine has received more than $100 billion in external financing.

Before that, on November 20, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, and the World Bank's Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, met in Kyiv. The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Ukraine and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Moreover, Ukraine expects to receive a $1.1 billion tranche from the International Monetary Fund at the end of December.
