Biden requests $24 bln in aid for Ukraine from Congress – New York Post

The current President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has appealed to Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion to Ukraine, particularly to strengthen military support.

The New York Post reports this with reference to Politico.Pro.

Based on a request, the White House Office of Management and Budget suggested that Congress include this aid in a set of decisions to prevent the funding from being terminated by the following administration.

Several lawmakers got acquainted with the proposal on Monday.

It provides that of the above-mentioned amount of $24 billion:

• $8 billion will go to the initiative to assist in the field of security of Ukraine, in particular, to finance contracts of American companies to supply weapons to Ukraine;
• the remaining $16 billion should go to replenish the US arms stockpile.

However, there has already been backlash among Republicans over the notification of the request. Senator Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah, is one such example.

"Joe Biden just gave away $4.7 billion in taxpayer dollars, unilaterally "forgiving" Ukraine's loans. Congress should not give him a free gift to sabotage further President Trump's peace talks on the way out. Any of Biden's funding demands should be rejected," he wrote on the X social network.

As Rubryka previously wrote, the current US administration plans to send a request to Congress for new aid to Ukraine for fiscal year 2025 during the transition period.

On November 20, the United States announced the provision of a $275 million military aid package to Ukraine. The package includes ammunition for HIMARS systems, drones, and Javelin anti-tank systems.

The US Department of Defense added that the US will continue to work with approximately 50 NATO member states and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format and related coalitions to urgently meet Ukraine's battlefield needs and protect it from Russian aggression.

In early November, the United States also announced the allocation of a $425 million military assistance package for Ukraine. The military will receive missiles, ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.

The Biden administration has also approved that Ukraine can utilize the American weapons provided to them for launching strikes on Russian soil. These weapons include ATACMS missiles.

In turn, President Zelensky said that if the US reduces its military assistance, Ukraine could find itself in a critical situation. The available resources of Ukrainian production are currently insufficient to resist Russian aggression successfully.
