100-year-old Ukrainian shatters three world records at swimming championship in Zhytomyr
100-year-old Heorhiy Chyzhevsky set three world records during the Ukrainian Swimming Championship in Zhytomyr.
The Department of National-Patriotic Education, Youth, and Sports of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration reported this on Facebook.
The Ukrainian Swimming Championship among athletes in the "Masters" category (25 m pool) was held in the pool of the Zhytomyr Children's and Youth Sports School "Avangard."
The report says the event brought together 193 participants aged 25 to 100 from 14 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv and 22 swimming clubs.
During the championship, 54 Ukrainian records and three world records were set.
Heorhiy Chyzhevsky from Voznesensk, Mykolaiv region, demonstrated awe-inspiring achievements.
At the age of 100 years and 7 months, the swimmer set world records in the 50, 100, and 200 m breaststroke.
Heorhiy Chyzhevsky is the current champion and world record holder in the 50-meter pool.
Earlier, Rubryka reported that a resident of Voznesensk, Heorhiy Chyzhevsky, at the age of 100, set three world records in breaststroke swimming in his category.
The man became the winner of the summer all-Ukrainian competitions among the members of the "Masters" club.
Heorhiy Chyzhevsky, the centenarian athlete, exercises daily to maintain his physical fitness. Even though he has been unable to train in the pool due to illness, he remains prepared for upcoming swimming competitions.
"I wake up in the morning and start training – I do push-ups, push-ups. That's why I don't need to swim. I'll "work out" so much on land that I'll swim not 200, but 500 meters," Heorhiy said.
Constant self-development is the recipe for his longevity, the man says.
According to Chyzhevsky, he learned how to swim when he was 10 years old. He credits his strength and determination to his experiences during World War II. However, he laments that his advanced age prevents him from returning to the battlefield.
