Solutions from Ukraine: Kyiv region unveils trolleybuses with innovative power bank feature

In the Kyiv region, the company "Politechnoservice," based in Brovary, unveiled a revolutionary feature for its autonomous trolleybuses: they can function as mobile power sources.

The company's director, Mykola Kuhut, reported that in an interview with dev.ua.

What is the solution?

"Politechnoservice" was established as a supplier of Czech Republic equipment for "Bohdana" trolleybuses, coinciding with Ukraine hosting Euro 2012.

One of the founders, who was Czech, established the company to offer warranty and post-warranty support for their products. As time passed, the warranties ended, prompting them to develop their products.

How does it work?

"We manufacture the drive, electronic, and electrical equipment that makes the trolleybus what it is. I believe that we are exclusive in Ukraine because none of the trolleybus manufacturers have their own trolleybus drive, autonomous battery, or other developments that we are engaged in," Mykola Kuhut said.

The car comes equipped with a high-voltage battery and converter, allowing for:

• independent travel for up to 30 km without needing to connect to the grid;
• charging can be done through the grid or a 380 V outlet.

One feature is that the trolleybus can charge its batteries while in motion and switch to self-propelled mode when the contact network is no longer available.

The new technology enables the trolleybus to be a backup power source during power outages. This means it can supply electricity to essential locations such as:

• hospitals;
• and schools.

This makes trolleybuses not only a means of transportation but also an essential element of infrastructure in the face of energy challenges.

According to reports, the Brovary company's trolleybuses are currently running in Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv, and they are sold to these cities through tender processes.
