With Trump administration, war will definitely end faster — Zelensky
A constructive interaction occurred between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President-elect Donald Trump, where the Ukrainian side presented its vision for peace comprehensively.
Zelensky shared these details in an interview with Suspilne marking the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian Radio, as quoted by Rubryka.
"He [Trump] has understood the foundation of our position. I did not hear anything opposing it," Zelensky remarked.
When asked if Trump had urged Ukraine to engage in negotiations with Russia, Zelensky affirmed Ukraine's sovereignty:
"We are an independent country. Throughout this war, during negotiations with the US, Trump, Biden, and European leaders, our people and I have demonstrated that the rhetoric of 'Sit and listen' does not work with us."
The Ukrainian president expressed hope that the Trump administration's policies could expedite the resolution of the war:
"The war will end, though the exact date is unclear. However, with the policies of this incoming team in the White House, the war will end sooner. This is their approach and their commitment to their society, which is also significant for us."
Zelensky underscored the importance of achieving a just peace that honors the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people.
Trump's stance on Ukraine
The Washington Post previously reported on conversations between Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The discussions primarily focused on Russia's war against Ukraine.
According to the newspaper, Trump, the US president-elect, advised Putin against escalating the war and reminded him of the presence of American troops in Europe.
Trump also reportedly expressed interest in continuing dialogue to seek a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
Notably, on November 7, Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky later announced that they had agreed to strengthen cooperation.
Media reports indicate that during the 25-minute call, Trump reassured Zelensky that US support for Ukraine would continue. American billionaire Elon Musk also participated in the conversation.
Trump, now the newly elected President of the United States, reiterated his commitment to ending the war in Ukraine, stating that this would be a priority for his administration.
