Ukrainian kickboxing team secures top medal count at European championship
The Ukrainian national team dominated at the European Championship in Athens, Greece, snagging an impressive 36 medals and claiming the coveted first place out of the 41 competing countries. They triumphantly conquered 12 different categories.
The press service of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reported that.
"Triumph of the WAKO kickboxing team of Ukraine at the European Championship," the ministry noted.
According to the department, Ukrainian kickboxers won a total of 36 medals, including:
- 12 gold,
- 11 silver,
- and 13 bronze.
Furthermore, four Ukrainian athletes were granted licenses for the 2025 World Games in China following these competitions. The following athletes were elected:
- Roman Shcherbatiuk (+91 kg),
- Dariia Ivanova (52 kg),
- Alina Martyniuk (60 kg),
- Hlib Mazur (63.5 kg).

It's worth mentioning that the Ukrainian futsal team emerged victorious against France in the third-place match at the World Cup. This marked the first time in history that Ukrainians achieved the status of bronze medalists in this sport.
As previously reported, Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbyk has been named as one of the nominees for the 2024 Golden Ball, following in the footsteps of previous winner Andrii Shevchenko. Additionally, Ukrainian Real Madrid goalkeeper Andrii Lunin has been nominated for the title of best goalkeeper in 2024.
The Ukrainian national team has wrapped up their performance at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, France. This marks the fourth highest medal count in Ukraine's history of competing in the Paralympics.
