The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, with financial backing from the German government, launched the "Reconstruction of schools in war-torn regions" project.

The Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine reported that on Telegram.

What is the problem?

According to Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, as of September, 3,798 educational institutions in Ukraine were damaged by Russian bombings and shelling, of which 365 were completely destroyed.

What is the solution?

The initiative "Reconstruction of schools in regions affected by the war" was launched by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine with Germany's financial support.

The program will focus on the key areas that educational institutions are primarily affected by.

How does it work?

Areas covered by the project include:

  • Kirovohrad region;
  • Lviv region;
  • Poltava region;
  • Khmelnytskyi region;
  • Cherkasy region.

As part of the project, the partners plan to repair classrooms and other facilities that were damaged by enemy shelling in educational institutions.

Attention will also be paid to energy efficiency and decoration.

In addition, the initiative provides educational institutions with the necessary furniture, such as blackboards, desks, chairs, and bookcases.

Thanks to this project, over 6,000 students and 5,000 teachers are anticipated to have the opportunity to resume their studies and daily lives in a comfortable and secure environment.

For reference:

It should be noted that from November 2024, UNICEF will allocate 203.35 million hryvnias to support 700 schools in Ukraine. This funding is made possible by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, in collaboration with the German Development Bank (KFW).

Each institution will receive 290,500 hryvnias to prepare for the winter period, ensuring better learning conditions during the cold season.
