A meeting of the General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces was convened to discuss the feasibility of establishing a distinct military branch, the Cyber Forces. The project proposal is currently under deliberation.

The General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces press service reports this.

Anatolii Barhylevych, the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces, presented the initiative.

The meeting featured experts and members of Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Security, Defense, and Intelligence.

The project presented considers the experiences of the world's top countries in creating and operating Cyber Armies. Additionally, the participants discussed Ukraine's firsthand experience in cyberspace acquired during the defense against full-scale Russian aggression.

An important aspect was the definition of the main tasks and functions of the new Cyber Forces, as well as the distribution of powers between the components of the security and defense sector regarding actions in cyberspace.

The establishment of Cyber Forces for the Ukrainian military will enhance:

  • the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces;
  • the efficient planning and execution of a wide range of tasks in the cyber realm (recognized as its operational domain, equal to land, sea, air, and space).

This will help Ukraine strengthen its position amidst modern warfare, where cyberspace has become a crucial operational domain alongside land, sea, air, and space.

It should be noted that Ukraine became the first country to create the newest type of militarythe Forces of Unmanned Systems.

For reference:

On February 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky directed the development of a distinct branch within the armed forces known as the Unmanned Systems Forces.

The document declares its intention to enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces in utilizing unmanned and robotic air, sea, and land systems and to ensure their preparedness for use.

At the end of June, based on the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree creating the Unmanned Systems Forces.

The Verkhovna Rada has officially approved the strategic decision to amend the "Law on Ukraine's armed forces" to create a new branch of the Ukrainian armed forces.

On September 16, the head of state signed a law providing the inclusion of the Unmanned Systems Forces in separate branches of Ukraine's armed forces.

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stressed that establishing a new branch within the Armed Forces is a crucial development for the Ukrainian army, as it ushers in new doctrines, tactics, and procedures.
