Lithuania rekindles Macron's proposal to deploy Western troops to Ukraine
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis believes it is time for the EU to reconsider the idea of deploying troops in Ukraine amid reports that thousands of North Korean soldiers may soon join the war on Russia's side.
Politico reports this.
According to him, if the reports of North Korea providing ammunition and military personnel to Russia are validated, then Europe should reconsider the idea of deploying troops to Ukraine and other suggestions put forth by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"Unfortunately, we are once again lagging in our response, but I believe in our joint ability to take all the necessary proactive steps to turn President Macron's ideas into action," the head of Lithuanian diplomacy added.
For reference:
The French president, Emmanuel Macron, recently suggested the potential deployment of troops in Ukraine, sparking a discussion among the country's allies.
France later clarified that they were not planning to send troops to participate in combat directly. Several NATO countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Canada, have expressed readiness to consider this possibility.
However, a number of NATO member nations, such as the USA, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, Spain, the Czech Republic, Poland, etc., have already announced that they will not send their troops to Ukraine.
