United to win: Ukraine and Finland form coalition to advance shelter system development
Ukraine and Finland created a coalition for civil protection to develop a system of modern shelters.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced this on Facebook.
"Together with Finland, we are launching a civil defense coalition to build a system of modern shelters in Ukraine," the head of the Ukrainian government said.
He mentioned that he became acquainted with the Merihaka Civil Defense shelter in Helsinki.
As Shmyhal emphasized, there are approximately 5,500 shelters in Helsinki that can accommodate 900,000 people. That is, there are enough places for both residents and city guests.
"We want to use this experience to build shelters in Ukraine. Together with Finland, we will involve partners in implementing similar projects," the Prime Minister emphasized.
As Rubryka has reported before, the Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Finland, Denys Shmyhal and Petteri Orpo, engaged in discussions on defense and protection, as well as cooperation in energy and social spheres during the working visit of the head of the Ukrainian government to Helsinki on October 18.
The parties exchanged views on the development of the civil protection system. The discussion was primarily about building shelters in Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal proposed creating a Civil Defense Coalition.
The meeting focused on cooperation in the energy sector, which is important for Ukraine. Finland is assumed to provide a new aid package, which will include various energy equipment.
"Ukraine has already received 200 transformers and 500 generators of various types, 8,000 units of related energy equipment. Finland also allocated 5 million euros to increase the energy efficiency of schools, kindergartens, and hospitals. Today, they focus on the new critical needs of the energy sector. A principled position is that the primary source of recovery should be Russian funds. I am grateful to Finland for its active role in directing the frozen Russian assets to the defense and reconstruction of Ukraine," Denys Shmyhal stressed.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health and Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo Halytskyi and the Foundation of Children's Hospital and Research Institute "Nadiia" (Finland) have signed a memorandum of cooperation. This is to establish a Rehabilitation Center at the university, which will provide physical and psychological rehabilitation for Ukrainian children who have been affected by the devastating impact of war through losses, injuries, and traumas.
