Ukraine repatriates bodies of 501 fallen defenders
As a result of repatriation measures, Ukraine returned the bodies of 501 fallen defenders to the controlled territory.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported this.
It was possible to repatriate the remains of:
- 382 defenders who perished on the Avdiivka front,
- 56 fallen soldiers from the Bakhmut front,
- 45 defenders' bodies from the Mariinka front,
- Six fallen defenders from the Vuhledar front,
- Four casualties from the Zaporizhzhia front,
- and seven defenders who fought in the Luhansk region.
One body was also returned from a morgue on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Repatriated bodies and remains will be transported to designated government institutions. Representatives of law enforcement agencies and forensic medical experts will identify the victims. After that, the defenders' bodies will be handed over to their relatives for a dignified burial.
The transfer of bodies of fallen soldiers is carried out in accordance with the norms of the Geneva Conventions.
