Ukraine’s prosecutor general launches criminal investigation on shooting of nine Ukrainian POWs in Russia

The Prosecutor General's Office has initiated criminal proceedings regarding the alleged shooting of nine Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin reported this.

The Prosecutor General emphasized that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and an international crime.

Therefore, the investigation is being conducted on the basis of a violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

"We are doing everything to identify and punish all the perpetrators of the crimes committed by the aggressor country against Ukraine and Ukrainians," Kostin stressed.

On October 13, analysts from DeepState reported that Russian soldiers in the Kursk region had shot and killed nine Ukrainian soldiers, referring to the first separate tank brigade.

Analysts say the Ukrainian fighters headed towards their positions, thinking they were in the rear, but were forced to fight the enemy. The defenders' shortage of ammunition led them to surrender.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, said that he appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, also called on the international community to take immediate measures after the shooting of Ukrainian fighters in the Kursk region.
