Solutions to win: over 140 new UAV models take flight in Ukraine's armed forces operations in 2024
Since the beginning of this year, the Defense Forces of Ukraine have officially recognized and authorized the use of over 140 domestically produced unmanned aerial systems and 33 land-based robotic systems.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that.
The department reminded everyone that in 2023, the following were officially codified:
- 60 unmanned aircraft complexes,
- nine domestically-made ground robotic complexes.
Colonel Volodymyr Rochniak, head of the Main Directorate for Life Cycle Support of Weapons and Military Equipment, noted the rapid growth of unmanned systems' role on the battlefield.
"Ukrainian gunsmiths quickly respond to the needs of the front. Today, they produce unmanned systems of a wide range," the colonel noted.
He says Ukrainian gunsmiths are heavily involved in developing aviation drones for various purposes, such as kamikazes, bombers, scouts, and corrections. Additionally, they manufacture:
- various types of drones, including airplanes and copters,
- at different ranges for tactical, operational, and strategic purposes.

Robotic ground complexes can also carry out a wide range of tasks, such as:
- striking,
- gathering intelligence,
- providing logistical support,
- conducting evacuations,
- and performing engineering work.
Over 40% of the drones approved for use this year were certified in the third quarter, suggesting a resurgence in weapon manufacturing in Ukraine.
The Defense Forces have approved using radio-electronic warfare-resistant, radio-transparent, low-noise unmanned complexes equipped with guidance and self-destruction systems, among other features.
For reference:
As Rubryka reported, during nine months of 2024, the Ministry of Defense codified and authorized 175 motor vehicle models, including 76 of domestic production, for use in the Defense Forces.
Furthermore, over 900 weapons and military equipment samples were approved for use in the Defense Forces in the first nine months of this year, over 600 of which were from domestic production.
"To increase the capabilities of the Defense Forces in the sky and on the ground, to significantly expand the range of production of effective tools of war, it is important for us to increase military-technical cooperation with partners. The more we attract financial and technological investments, the less chance the Kremlin will have to implement its aggressive plans," the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk, emphasized.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine presented the latest models of domestic weapons to foreign partners. The presentation took place at one of the military training grounds. The partners were shown samples of domestic weapons that proved their effectiveness on the battlefield.
