Death toll in Russian attack on Odesa port rises to seven victims
The number of fatalities from the Russian attack on the port infrastructure of the Odesa region on the evening of October 9 has risen to 7 people.
The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, reported that on Telegram.
One of the individuals injured during the Russian attack on Odesa's port infrastructure on the evening of October 9 passed away in the hospital.
According to the head of the local military authority, the deceased was a 46-year-old port worker. The doctors did everything in their power to save the injured man.
"Unfortunately, the number of victims as a result of yesterday's Russian missile attack has increased to 7. This morning, a 46-year-old port employee died in the hospital. The doctors did everything possible, but the injuries were too severe," the report said.
It should be noted that on the evening of October 9, Russian troops hit the port infrastructure of the Odesa region with ballistic missiles. During the attack, a civilian ship under the flag of Panama, the container ship Shui Spirit, was damaged.
It was reported that as a result of the attack, five people died, and another nine were injured. It is noted that all the victims are Ukrainians. Currently, they are receiving medical assistance; five are in serious condition.
Later, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration announced that the number of dead had increased to six.
The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Oleksii Kuleba, stated that Russia has attacked three foreign ships in the past four days.
For reference:
On October 7, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile at the port facilities of Odesa, resulting in an attack on a commercial ship flying the flag of Palau. Tragically, a 60-year-old Ukrainian worker from a private cargo handling company lost his life, and five other crew members from other countries sustained injuries.
On the night of October 6, a civilian ship under the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis, which was standing in the port of Odesa with corn grain loaded for export, was damaged.
Russia traditionally claims the destruction of alleged military cargo, but in reality, its attacks are targeting innocent civilian objects. Most recently, in the Izmail district of the Odesa region, a similar attack caused damage to multiple trucks and administrative buildings located on the border with Romania.
Despite constant shelling, the Ukrainian Maritime Food Corridor works around the clock. In just over a year, it has successfully exported over 70 million tons of cargo, with over 2,500 ships departing from Ukrainian ports to Africa, Asia, and Europe.
