Ukrainian forces strike Russian Nebo-M radar stations with ATACAMS missiles
The Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully targeted and destroyed the Russian Nebo-M radar station, which is typically a very challenging task.
The General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces reported that.
"Units of the Missile Forces of Ukraine's armed forces successfully struck the Russian Nebo-M radar station with ATACAMS ballistic missiles," the military command said.
As they mention, the Nebo-M radar is highly challenging to defeat, as it operates in stealth mode and scans the horizon to detect aerial objects.
The General Staff added that, according to available information, the enemy has only ten working systems of this type.
Each of them is estimated at more than 100 million US dollars.
Based on statements from the General Staff, the destruction of the facility severely impairs the Russian army's capability to detect, track, and intercept aerodynamic and ballistic targets.
"The destruction of the Nebo-M radar will create a favorable "air corridor" for the effective use of Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG cruise missiles," the military said.
It's important to note that "Nebo-M" or RLM-ME is a versatile mobile radar system capable of detecting aerodynamic and ballistic objects at medium and high altitudes. It is also a member of the Nebo family of radars.
A radar station is built to pinpoint the three coordinates of targets. The facility includes a command module and one to three distinct radars equipped with advanced detection capabilities and large coverage areas. This allows for the detection of small and stealthy targets that might otherwise go undetected.
The manufacturer claims that this radar system can detect 5th-generation aircraft such as the F-22 and F-35 and detect long-range ballistic missile launches.
For reference:
The General Staff reported that yesterday, the Russian invaders launched numerous attacks on the positions of Ukraine's armed forces in Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Kurakhiv. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled a total of 76 enemy attacks, with a total of 142 combat clashes taking place on the front.
As reported by the military command yesterday the aviation and missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces struck:
- four means of air defense,
- three areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment,
- one artillery piece in a firing position,
- two ammunition depots of the invaders.
The total loss of Russian troops since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in human resources amounted to more than 656,700 soldiers. Just last day, October 2, the Defense Forces eliminated more than 1,100 invaders.
