This was reported by Rubryka, citing a White House broadcast.
Harris met with Zelensky at the White House on Thursday, following his talks with President Joe Biden and shortly after Biden announced an additional $8 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Harris reaffirmed the administration's unwavering support for Ukraine.
"My support for the people of Ukraine is unwavering. I am proud to stand side by side with Ukraine. I will continue to support Ukraine and work to ensure that Ukraine wins this war," Harris stated.
She emphasized that the struggle in Ukraine is significant to the American people and framed Russia's war as a threat to global order.
"Putin's aggression is not only an attack on the people of Ukraine, but also on fundamental principles like sovereignty and territorial integrity. International rules and norms are not abstract concepts—they ensure order and stability in our world. They protect American security and prosperity, and when they're threatened anywhere, they're threatened everywhere," Harris said.
She further stressed that pivotal moments in American history occurred when the US confronted aggressors like Putin.
"History reminds us that the United States cannot and should not isolate itself. Isolation does not ensure security. The US supports Ukraine not out of charity, but because it's in our strategic interests. We will continue providing the security assistance Ukraine needs to succeed on the battlefield," Harris concluded.
President Zelensky emphasized that the United States and Ukraine share a common vision for ending the war and expressed gratitude for the "strong aid package" announced by President Biden this week.
"We must continue to pressure Russia to end the war and achieve a lasting and just peace—this is our top priority," Zelensky stated.
Vice President Harris reinforced that "the end of this war cannot be decided without Ukraine" and pointed out that some in the US propose forcing Ukraine to give up a significant portion of its sovereign territory or accept neutrality and forgo security ties with other nations.
"These proposals mirror Putin's demands. To be clear, they are not peace proposals—they are proposals for surrender, which is both dangerous and unacceptable," Harris emphasized.
In contrast, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, in an event on Wednesday, questioned why Ukrainians did not cede territory to the Russian invaders.
Zelensky has requested a meeting with Trump, in addition to his meetings at the White House, but so far, the former president has not agreed.
Later, Trump announced a scheduled meeting with Zelensky on September 27 at 9:45 a.m. at "Trump Tower" in New York. As of now, Ukraine has not publicly confirmed these plans.
Rubryka reported that on September 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the US Capitol.
During his visit to the United States, Zelensky met with President Joe Biden for the second time and presented his victory plan. Biden emphasized the long-term support of Kyiv from the US and its partners.
Zelensky also introduced the victory plan to members of the US Senate and House of Representatives.
