Rebuilding Ukraine: over 30 countries and EU unite at NYC meeting to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction

A meeting took place in New York with the "Group of Seven" + Ukraine, where over 30 countries and the European Union agreed on a Joint Declaration to support the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.

The Office of the President of Ukraine reported that.

The declaration highlights the following key elements:

• Strong backing for Ukraine's reconstruction efforts as it strives for EU membership.
• Coordination of aid through the Ukrainian platform of donors.
• Commitment to providing approximately $50 billion in additional financial assistance by the end of the year, utilizing revenue from frozen Russian assets. Some of these funds will be allocated towards defense purposes.

Joseph Biden emphasized that this declaration is being made public to demonstrate support for Ukraine now and in the future:

"I am determined to ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to prevail in its fight for survival. Tomorrow, I will announce a series of actions to accelerate support for Ukraine's military."

He also emphasized that the partner countries will help Ukraine move from economic stability to economic revival. According to Joseph Biden, income from frozen Russian assets will be used to rebuild the country.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, remarked that this shared commitment will aid in the country's rebuilding. It includes collaborating efforts through the Ukrainian donor platform.

The President emphasized that this support should become tangible already this year:

"This reflects our shared vision of life – we protect people, and we ensure that people have the opportunities to live. And it is absolutely justified that those who help us withstand now will be the first to benefit together with Ukraine from the large-scale reconstruction."

While adopting the Joint Declaration, speeches were delivered by:

• President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky,
• President of the United States, Joseph Biden,
• President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen,
• Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer,
• President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni,
• and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.

It is worth mentioning that Zelensky had previously announced on Telegram his plans to lay the foundation for restoration, which will promote peace for both Ukraine and all of Europe and improve overall well-being.

On June 13, the leaders of the "Big Seven" made a deal to loan Ukraine 50 billion dollars. Their strategy involves using the interest earned on the frozen assets of the Russian central bank as security.

Bloomberg wrote that the funds would be directed to support Ukraine's defense, economy, and reconstruction, but the details may still change. The aid will start arriving by the end of the year.

Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, stated that the loan would not be backed by EU countries but by the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and perhaps Japan.
