United to win: US boosts military support to Ukraine with $375 mln aid package
The United States of America allocated new military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $375 million.
This is reported on the Pentagon website.
"Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced additional security assistance support to ensure Ukraine has the tools to prevail in its fight against Russian aggression.
This includes the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package, which has an estimated value of $375 million, to provide Ukraine additional capabilities to meet its most urgent needs, including air-to-ground weapons; munitions for rocket systems and artillery; armored vehicles; and anti-tank weapons," the statement said.
The new package includes, in particular:
- Air-to-ground munitions;
- Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
- 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition;
- Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
- M1117 Armored Security Vehicles;
- Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles;
- Light tactical vehicles;
- Armored bridging systems;
- Small arms;
- Patrol boats;
- Demolitions equipment and munitions;
- Spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation.
The Pentagon also mentioned that this marks the 66th batch of equipment that the Biden administration has supplied to Ukraine from the US Department of Defense stockpiles since August 2021.
The US Department of Defense added that the United States will continue to work with nearly 50 NATO member nations and partners to provide Ukraine with the support it needs to win the war.
For reference:
US President Joe Biden called on UN member states to tirelessly support Ukraine in helping it win the war and preserve its freedom.
The White House requested that the extension of funding be included in the permanent resolution put forth by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. These funds are set to expire at the end of the month.
As previously reported, in April, US President Joe Biden signed a law that allowed more than $60 billion to be transferred to support Ukraine. As of the beginning of September, more than 6 billion dollars remained unused from the total package. The US administration must spend these 6 billion dollars on military aid to Ukraine by the end of the month or risk losing these funds.
