Ukrainian troops liberate Vovchansk aggregate plant in unique operation
Since the start of the Russian aggression, the liberation of the aggregate plant in Vovchansk, located in the Kharkiv region, marked the first successful operation of its kind by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian fighters successfully stormed the heavily fortified facility.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the Chief of Staff of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), Aleksandr "Fortuna," told about this on the air of the telethon.
The leader of the RDK team described the aggregate plant in Vovchansk as a massive fortified complex. It is a highly fortified fortress that can be seen from all angles, making it challenging to approach and almost impossible to breach.
"It was quite a complex operation. As far as I know, it was the first operation in a large-scale war in which a special forces team stormed an object of this level. Because, by and large, it is still more of a task for line infantry brigades with support artillery," the military said.
Nevertheless, it was proposed that specialists of Ukraine's intelligence and the RDK fighters carry out this task.
"The vast majority of the enemy was destroyed near the factory. A certain number of enemy personnel were captured. I will not name the number yet. So let's say it. I will say it is more than ten people," Aleksander added.
He said the aggregate plant was a key location for setting up a proper forward base or foothold for launching an attack south of Vovchansk. There are not many suitable places within the city as the Russian Federation all but destroyed it during their offensive.
"And today, of all the fortified areas, the aggregate plant was the most complex, the most protected, and the most difficult from the point of view of assault, as well as the easiest from the point of view of the enemy's defense. There are 3-4 such fortified areas left on the city's territory, but they are lower in class from the point of view of defense. I think that Ukraine's armed forces will advance and take these points. Thus, Vovchansk will return completely," the soldier noted.
At the same time, he called the information about hand-to-hand combat at the aggregate plant somewhat exaggerated.
"That was just one episode. It seems that a member of the 45th brigade lost his gun, so he hid in the darkness and unexpectedly attacked a member of the Yunger special unit with a knife. Our comrade was injured, but the attacker was eliminated. It was said that there were rumors that the 45th unit was stationed at the plant, which is part of the special forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense. However, their numbers were not significant."
For reference:
It should be noted that on September 24, it became known that units of Ukraine's intelligence completely liberated the territory of the Vovchansk aggregate plant and eliminated the occupiers in all the buildings of the enterprise.
The blockade at the aggregate plant lasted for several months.
Earlier, the operational-tactical group "Kharkiv" reported that Ukrainian troops have been blocking Russian units at the Vovchansk aggregate plant for several months.
At first, about 40 Russian soldiers were there, but the exact number of blocked invaders is currently unknown for specific reasons.
As of September 17, Russian service members were still present at the aggregate plant in Vovchansk. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on September 16 that Ukrainian forces could liberate the plant. According to the ISW, this information was obtained from a video shared by Russian military bloggers, showing the Russian army repeatedly targeting the factory and its surrounding area.
On September 22, the military reported that the aggregate factory in Vovchansk (Kharkiv region) became a big problem for the Russian invaders.
