United to win: Japan to supply one-third of demining machines in Ukraine by year’s end

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Japanese Ambassador Matsuda Kuninori, who is completing his diplomatic work in Ukraine.

The leader of Ukraine's government expressed gratitude to Japan for supporting UN resolutions in support of our country, specifically President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula and efforts in nuclear safety, as well as for signing the security agreement.

"Japan is ready to invest in our country. We are preparing to sign an investment protection agreement. We are waiting for the opening of the JETRO (Japanese Foreign Trade Organization) office in Ukraine. All these steps will contribute to active cooperation between our businesses," Denys Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister noted that Japan provides outstanding and invaluable assistance to Ukraine, especially in the humanitarian sphere. By the end of the year, a third of all demining machines in Ukraine will be Japanese-made. In addition, Japan significantly helps in the medical field.

"We are grateful to the Japanese government for its unwavering support, particularly during the G7 presidency. We expect that the bilateral dialogue between our countries will continue to actively develop," Denys Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister separately thanked Japan for supporting the decision of the G7 countries to provide Ukraine with $50 billion from the use of frozen Russian assets.

The leader of the Ukrainian government also expressed gratitude to the Ambassador of Japan for his substantial contribution to enhancing the partnership between the two countries and presented him with a prestigious certificate from the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government—ed.].
