Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at the UN Future Summit and called for global unity to overcome the destructive power of the Russian Federation and its accomplices.

The Ukrainian leader stated this at the Summit of the Future, which Suspilne broadcasted.

As Zelensky mentioned, Ukraine is getting ready for the second Peace Summit, focusing on:

  • improving food and energy security,
  • and holding Russia accountable.

They will also consider issues related to releasing prisoners of war and restoring territorial integrity.

The president also thanked:

  • Germany and Namibia for their joint work on the Pact for the Future;
  • Zambia and Sweden for facilitating negotiations on the Global Digital Compact;
  • Jamaica and the Netherlands, that co-chaired the intergovernmental process on the Declaration for Future Generations,
  • and African countries for their common position.

The president also mentioned that, while working on the Pact for the Future, the seven countries led by Russia once again opposed any initiatives.

"This time, during the work on the Pact for the Future, the same small group of seven accomplices, led by Russia, has once again acted destructively, always opposing any global initiatives that strengthen the effectiveness of the U.N. Charter […].

The world needs a peaceful future and sustainable development. And I say this as the President of Ukraine, a country resisting Russia's brutal colonial aggression. And we know exactly how much global unity can achieve—both here at the U.N. and through the Peace Summits for Ukraine, where we aim to overcome Russia's destructiveness and its accomplices," the Ukrainian leader emphasized.

For reference:
