Danish PM urges allies to allow Ukraine to strike Russian territories: “Let us end the discussion about red lines”

The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, said that Ukraine's allies should stop hesitating, helping Ukraine fight back and allowing the use of the provided weapons for attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation. After all, the most important red line crossed by the Russian ruler Putin was the military invasion of Ukraine.

Mette Frederiksen said this in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Copenhagen.

According to her, Ukraine's allies should stop delaying helping the country fight back and allow the weapons provided to be used to strike targets in Russia.

"My suggestion is, let us end the discussion about red lines," Frederiksen said. "It has been a mistake during this war to have a public discussion about red lines," as that is "simply giving the Russians too good a card in their hands."

It is essential to mention that major Western countries, such as the United States, have thus far refused to allow Ukraine to utilize Western-made missiles to strike deep into Russian territory due to concerns about escalating the war.

"There have been constant discussions about, 'Are we allowed to give this?' It would be really good to stop the delays there have been. And I think that the restrictions on the use of weapons should be lifted," the Danish Prime Minister said.

Frederiksen rejected any suggestion that allowing Ukraine to use weapons provided by Western countries to carry out long-range strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation would mean an escalation that would involve Kyiv's allies in the conflict.

"The most important red line has been crossed already. And that was when the Russians entered Ukraine. So I will not accept this premise, and I will never allow anyone from Russia to decide what is the right thing to do in NATO, in Europe, or in Ukraine," she added.

The leader of the Danish government stated that Ukraine will be a top priority at the upcoming UN meetings and cautioned fellow country leaders about Putin's broader intentions.

"What we see now is a Russia that is getting closer to North Korea and to Iran. And I don't think that Russia would be able to have a full-scale war inside Europe without help from China, unfortunately," she said. "So this is not a European conflict; this is a global conflict, and the consequences have been extremely high."

For reference:

Ukraine is currently asking its Western partners for permission to use long-range weapons to strike military targets deep within Russian territory.

Generals, diplomats, and civil society leaders have signed an open letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, urging them to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with Western-supplied long-range weapons.

A group of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives has also called on the White House to lift restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range American weapons, including ATACMS missiles, for strikes deep into Russian territory.

On September 10, President Biden hinted that the US may lift these restrictions.

It is worth adding that on September 14, the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, held talks with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, in the White House. Both leaders confirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. However, they did not agree on long-range strikes against Russia.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed support for Ukraine's use of long-range weapons against military targets in Russia, stating on August 13 that Canada fully backs this approach.
