Ukraine and Norway collaborate on nuclear safety initiatives with two new joint projects
This project is currently being implemented, and ongoing training and software adjustments are taking place.
The relationship between the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspection and the DSA (Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Agency) dates back to 2014. Since February 24, 2022, they have collaborated on several projects, including conducting surveys of areas impacted by enemy military occupation and supplying equipment for detecting radiation in previously occupied territories.
The parties will collaborate on creating policies and procedures to regain regulatory control over nuclear facilities impacted by occupation and hostilities. They will also work together to manage crucial knowledge required to safeguard personnel, the general public, and the environment in case of nuclear or radiation incidents caused by military actions.
For reference:
Norway was one of the first countries that provided Ukraine with equipment to strengthen nuclear and radiation security after the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. Already in March 2022, it provided equipment for Ukrainian border guards and the Rivne nuclear power plant.
