Rebuilding Ukraine: France provides support for construction of modular hospital in Nizhyn, Chernihiv region
A modern modular hospital is set to be built in Nizhyn, in the Chernihiv region. The French government has pledged to contribute 35 million euros to this venture.
The deputy mayor of Nizhyn, Iryna Hrozenko, reported that, according to Suspilne.
What is the problem?
In the last two years, the Nizhyn City Council has actively searched for ways to update the local hospital. Representatives of the council have submitted applications to several international grant programs.
What is the solution?
The French delegation visited the Nizhyn hospital, assessing the conditions and potential for implementing this extensive project.
France agreed to finance the construction. However, due to the large amount of financing, the process of transferring funds was complicated.
The deputy mayor of Nizhyn mentioned that the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) supported the intergovernmental agreement on August 2, 2024. Shortly after, on September 17, the parliament officially ratified the framework agreement between the governments of Ukraine and France. This paved the way for the project of modular hospitals to commence.
How does it work?
As the official reported, the new hospital's construction location has already been determined.
"We have identified a place for construction. For this, three old buildings of the Nizhyn City Central Hospital, which are currently practically unused, will first be demolished," Hrozenko said.
The French side undertook to complete the construction of the hospital within 24 months. In addition to construction, France will also provide the hospital with the necessary equipment that will allow it to be fully operational.
The modular hospital will become an important element of Nizhyn's medical infrastructure, providing modern conditions for treating the local population.
For reference:
It should be noted that the German government provided funds to construct a modern hospital in the Zaporizhzhia region. This is already the sixth modular hospital in Ukraine, financed by the German government as part of the project "Special program of support for Ukraine / EU4ResilientRegions," and is implemented by GIZ Ukraine.
The Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv regions have also welcomed their fourth and fifth modular hospitals. The German government funded the Dnipropetrovsk region hospital as part of the "EU4ResilientRegions—Special Support Program for Ukraine" project, which GIZ Ukraine implemented. The Dnipropetrovsk region hospital began operations on January 24, followed by the Chernihiv hospital on January 25.
