Germany pledges €100 mln to help Ukraine survive the winter
Germany will allocate an additional 100 million euros to Ukraine for the winter.
German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock announced that, according to Reuters.
As the head of the German foreign policy department noted, Russia is planning a "winter war" again.
"Russia has carried out waves of attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, in particular on power plants, which sometimes led to widespread power outages in some parts of the country," Baerbok noted at a conference in Chisinau.
As Reuters reports, the most important directions for assistance to Ukraine are:
- protecting the Ukrainian sky,
- and restoring the energy infrastructure.
For reference:
The EU has been actively supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war with Russia through several vital initiatives and measures. For example, the political bloc provides financial assistance to help the Ukrainian economy and restore infrastructure.
Thus, on September 10, Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko discussed with the Ambassador of Sweden, Martin Oberg, the preparation of the energy system for winter and Ukraine's urgent needs for additional equipment. As a result, Sweden will allocate more than 40 million euros to purchase energy equipment.
In addition, Denmark will transfer to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine an additional grant of about 4.7 million euros for the rapid restoration of critical energy infrastructure facilities in the front-line Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.
Also in August, the Ukrainian delegation in Washington provided American partners with a list of infrastructure equipment that needed repair after Russia attacked the Ukrainian energy system.
