Zelensky reveals key points of Ukraine’s victory plan
Ukraine will present a comprehensive victory plan to US President Joe Biden in September, which outlines four main points, plus an additional one for post-war needs.
This was confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with CNN's Farid Zakaria, as reported by Rubryka.
Zelensky emphasized that his discussions with Biden will focus on strengthening Ukraine's position ahead of the second peace summit. He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not participate unless Ukraine appears strong enough to force serious diplomatic solutions.
"I will talk to him about how to strengthen us before the peace summit, to ensure we are in a strong position. Diplomatic solutions only work when you are strong; otherwise, Putin will not participate and won't be interested in ending the war," Zelensky stated.
The president outlined his plan for victory, which involves Ukraine being "very strong" and "ready for strong diplomacy." He specified that the plan includes four key points, plus an additional one that will be crucial after the war. These focus on security, military, and economic support.
"I will share these points with Biden. It's about security, our geopolitical positioning, strong military support, and decisions on economic backing, which I believe will be of interest," Zelensky explained.
He added that if Biden supports and enhances this plan, it will further strengthen Ukraine's position. Zelensky is open to incorporating suggestions from the US to make Ukraine's stance even stronger.
A few days ago, Zelenskyy highlighted that each point of the victory plan is linked to decisions Biden will need to make. However, he cautioned that while these measures will strengthen Ukraine, they may not guarantee that Putin will stop the war.
"There are not many points, but each will depend on Biden's decision. I believe it will help, although I can't guarantee it will stop Putin. But it will strengthen Ukraine and make Putin think about how to end the war," he said.
Background on the victory plan
Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine's plan aims to both end the war and strengthen its battlefield capabilities. If pressure on Russia continues, he believes diplomatic resolution will become possible. The president has frequently referenced the "plan for victory," which includes regaining control of occupied Ukrainian territories and ensuring lasting peace through the implementation of Ukraine's "peace formula."
Ukraine will present this plan to international partners, with Zelensky planning a September meeting with Biden to discuss it in detail. One of the key topics will be lifting restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range missiles.
