No permission for Ukraine to strike Russia with German weapons — Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated his stance against allowing Ukraine to use German-made weapons to strike targets deep in Russia, even if other nations give such permission. Scholz made these remarks during a public discussion in Prenzlau, Brandenburg.

Scholz firmly emphasized his refusal, saying, "It stands. That's why I will stick to my position even if other countries decide otherwise… I won't do it because I think it's a problem."

He noted that any rumors suggesting the US may lift restrictions on long-range weapons for Ukraine are not all accurate.

In February, German parliamentarians recommended supplying Ukraine with long-range weapons and ammunition to target strategic locations in Russia's rear. However, Scholz remained opposed, fearing this could directly involve Germany in a war with Russia.

Additionally, Rolf Mützenich, leader of the Social Democratic Party's parliamentary faction (Scholz's party), proposed creating an international contact group to facilitate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
